How We Do Privacy
At PinPoint Status, we take privacy, especially for service providers, very seriously. Because of that, we follow the standard best practices, encrypted sensitive or personal data, managed infrastructure, and battle-proven authentication and authorization frameworks. We also do several special things that are unique to our specific situation.
Location Access
Service providers on our platform give us full access to their location. We need to have this to provide real-time updates for customers, but we take this access with an extreme level of caution.
All communication between our mobile app and our server is encrypted using the same technology used for online banking. This ensures your data is not shared with 3rd parties. Additionally, our mobile app does not contain any user-tracking utilities which share your activity within the app with other parties.
Although we can turn on geolocation services at any time, we only have it enabled while a service provider has an active job. This ensures we are not constantly draining their battery, and we are only using their location when we must, to provide customers with updated ETAs and location.
Finally, we don’t keep a history of locations. When appropriate, we have a service provider's current location and that’s it. By not storing a history of the service provider’s location, their personal information stays theirs.
Phone Number
Service providers can easily communicate with customers via the PinPoint mobile app. One of the biggest advantages of doing this is that the service provider’s personal contact information remains private.
When a message is sent directly to the customer from our app, PinPoint acts as a middleman for the communication. This means that when the service provider sends a message, it goes to PinPoint and PinPoint forwards it to the customer from our phone number. By doing this, we make sure the service provider’s phone number is not given to the customer.
